About the Show
16th August 2009 - Make it a date!…
Featuring new attractions - including Heavy Horse logging demonstrations (as featured on BBC ” Countryfile”) in the main ring - Chorley Show 2009 is setting out to be another really enjoyable day out for all the family
- and will be fundraising for our Primary School, Family Playgroup and Village Hall).
Traditional favourites - like the Beer Tent (supplied by Hobsons, of course), the Heath Farm Meats on the BBQ, and the mouthwatering. local home baking from the Refreshment Marquee - will be back to give everyone a real ‘taste of Cleobury Country’. Local traders will provide a spot of ‘retail therapy’ in the market area - with Lady Wulfrun (she’s a fairground organ) alongside to lend a real carnival atmosphere.
We’ve also got it together with local helpers to add more ‘have-a-go-for yourself’ activities this year: so come along and try your hand at - Archery (bow and arrows from Cleobury Country Archers); and - throwing a pot (with Wenlock Pottery); and -scoring at the penalty shoot-out; and - bouncing inflatables (thanks to Bridgnorth Childrens’ Festival); and - craft activities (Chorley Family Playgroup) - and traditional sideshows.
The ‘Family Fun Dog Show’, the local WI-supported ‘Craft, Gardening & Cookery Show’, and popular local band “Whalebone”, also make a welcome return to ensure the Show really does have something for everyone! Add in blacksmithing demonstrations, the owl display, Wayne’s amazing circus skills, Shropshire Wildlife Trust display, singer Kate Bush sound-alike Beck Sian and a chance to meet the donkeys from the Rescue Centre, and we think it really will be an action-packed day.
For the less energetic, the display of photographs and other local artefacts will feature an update from The Four Parishes Heritage Group - alongside the sale of local postcards, maps and other Cleobury Country goodies.
Chorley Show is striving to be ‘carbon neutral’ again this year (we were probably the first such event ever held in Shropshire) - so we will, with your help, again be recycling most of the ‘rubbish’ we create. Come along to the Show to learn more about this initiative; and - talking of goodies - early arrivals at the Show can save money and contribute to our carbon-neutral goal by collecting FREE energy saving lightbulbs (whilst limited stocks last!)
Chorley Show is from 11am - 5pm on Sunday 16th August
