Led by Television and Film Stuntman, Justin Pearson, their jousting display boasts high speed action, skilful mounted knights and a fantastic colourful spectacle for all the family.

The Knights provide a Medievil show full of exciting stunts and horsemanship built up from having performed at major venues throughout Britain and Europe since 1990. They are also stuntmen from the big screen with credits such as the Da Vinci Code, The Golden Compass, Batman The Dark Knight and the forthcoming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Consisting of heroic mounted knights and their squires, the tournament begins with fanfares and introductions and ends with the dramatic thundering of hooves as the knights attempt to unhorse each other in the ‘JOUST’.

Watch as the knights hone their skills by striking the man-shaped target, the quintain, and attempt to spear peasants heads off the ground at speed. The show also boasts superbly choreographed foot fights with unmercilous swords, flaming fireballs on chains and unyielding quarterstaffs as well as the knights romantically accepting favours from the ladies and fighting for their honour.

Featuring new attractions – including the stunning Knights of the Damned medieval Jousting demonstration (as featured in the Harry Potter movies) in the main ring, Chorley Show 2010 is setting out to be another really enjoyable day out for all the family.

The Show is organised entirely by local volunteers, to all of whom ‘many, many thanks’ and will this year be fundraising for our Village Hall and for local arts and other activities.

Traditional favourites – like the Beer Tent (locally sourced from Hobsons and Robinsons, of course), the Heath Farm Meats on the BBQ, and the mouthwatering local home baking from the Refreshment Marquee – will be back to give everyone a real ‘taste of Cleobury Country’.

The Chorley Show Market will showcase many local traders, with what promises to be a wider than ever range of goods and services – in fact a spot of real quality ‘retail therapy’!

We’ve also got it together with local helpers and providers to add even more ‘have-a-go-for yourself’ activities this year: so come along and try your hand at – woodcarving (with Shropshire Wood Carvers) – archery (bows and arrows from Cleobury Country Archers); and – throwing a pot (with Clay Centre Pottery); and -scoring at the penalty shoot-out; and – bouncing inflatables; and – craft activities, tombola, and coconut shy (with Chorley Family Playgroup); and amazing traditional swingboats; and near the end of the afternoon, all the excitement of a classic childrens ‘sports day’.

The ‘Family Fun Dog Show’, the local WI-supported ‘Craft, Gardening & Cookery Show’, and popular local band “Whalebone”, make a welcome return to ensure the Show really does have something for everyone!

Add in blacksmithing demonstrations; the owl display; Wayne’s amazing circus skills; The Woodland Trust, Natural England and RSPB displays; and a chance to meet the donkeys from the Rescue Centre, and the Forest Dog Rescue folk too, we think it really will be an action-packed day.

For the less energetic, the display of photographs and other local artefacts will feature an update from The Four Parishes Heritage Group – alongside the sale of local postcards, maps and other Cleobury Country goodies.

Chorley Show is striving to be ‘carbon neutral’ again this year (we think we were probably the first such event ever held in Shropshire) – so we will, with your help, again be recycling most of the ‘rubbish’ generated. Come along to the Show to learn more about this initiative.

Chorley Show is from 11am – 5pm on Sunday 15th August

Chorley Showground (thanks to Willowdene Farm) is just 1½ miles west of the B4363 Cleobury -Kinlet -Cleobury Mortimer road … follow the blue Chorley Show signs. Information: www.chorleyshow.co.uk or call the Show Hotline 0700-598-0014
